Britannia Master Locksmiths can fit a security lock to your own front door then register it to you, this stops duplicate keys being cut without your knowledge or say so.

Master Keying can evolve and designs get more complex, you may be responsible for a building with departments or area’s that need grouping, entrance doors which everyone can use, or special access to certain parts by cleaners, maintenance or deliveries, so this is when different security levels and importance of the keys are paramount in the design of any system.

We can design a system to suit your budget, this can be added to for future cylinders as long as it has been provisioned for in the initial plan.

 

Specialist Computer

Software Britannia Master Locksmiths use computer based software to aid design a Master Key system. This reduces the risks of problems such as with cross keying or ghost keys. The system automatically builds in any element for extra capacity, so you can add additional cylinders in the future if required.

 

Site Visits

Britannia Master Locksmiths would need to carry out a site visit in order to produce a master keying chart which is plotted on something similar to a graph/matrix. This is where we list all the doors, the types of lock and who needs access.

 

This needs to be approved by the customer before work commences as changes after this point may not be possible.

 

Things to appreciate when ordering

  • Types, finishes and sizes of lock bodies and cylinders.
  • Keys are not always included with cost of cylinder.
  • Prices vary according to how locks are keyed KD, KA, and MK and their security levels, such as open section, restricted, along with their master keying capability.
  • Keys are always cheaper at time of order.
  • Master keys are sometimes more expensive than similar keys, depending on manufacturer.

Master Key Terminology Explained

Keyed to Differ – KD

When a lock is individually keyed, it can only be opened by its own key and no other, just like your own front lock.

Keyed Alike – KA

This allows for a number of locks to be operated by the same key. Good examples being when someone wants their front and back doors working from the same key. Often on shops where they use several padlocks on shutters, the shutters themselves or cabinets, it is convenient to have the same key… it goes on and on…

Master-keyed – MK

This involves each lock having its own individual key which will not operate any other lock in a building or buildings, but where all locks can be operated by a single key, usually held by a owner, a warden, someone in security, a nominated key holder for the premises… this key is the MASTER KEY.
